Launching on Saturday 22nd July during the heat of summer, we will kick off with the first section of the course: the Summer and Autumn Garden Care.
This will include summer crop care, harvesting, packaging and running a successful market stall. Through the programme, trainees will also gain confidence and experience in working with volunteers and will get a deeper understanding of community development.
From November, our trainees will move onto learn about winter care. As the days get shorter, trainees will learn how to manage a productive growing site in winter. This will include soil care, site maintenance and pruning.
To complete our trainees’ experience as the ground warms up and the first shoots appear, ‘Spring delight’ will cover seed sowing, maintenance and raising crops, completing trainees’ experience of the growing year.
Working on site during all four seasons will give trainees a full understanding of food growing, setting them up with the skills to further their learning and development and the confidence to run a site themselves.
Saturdays will also be open for our regular volunteers to join in the activities and learning opportunities. If you want to get involved, just come along from 10am with sensible clothing (including sun/rain gear) and a can do attitude!
We’re very excited about this training programme and the possibilities for our trainees and volunteers. Please help us to promote our new training programme!
