How it Began

How It Began

LUOS was set up in 2005 by mothers of Tottenham’s communities in Northumberland Park to reduce their isolation and make their neighbourhood safer.

Mothers from Kosovo, Turkey, Somalia and French-speaking African communities joined hands and efforts, with English, Irish and Caribbean, setting up a group to support each other and holding weekly meet, cook and eat sessions – this led to gaining qualifications and connecting with service providers.

The feeling was we are ‘all equal under one sun’!

Our differences make us strong as we learn to share our stories, meet in our neighbourhood making it a safer place, learn about services and help create new ones. LUOS was born, gained trust and support from the Council’s Neighbourhood Management service and in 2008 became a not for profit limited company managed by a Board of Directors.

Registered Charity

After many years of activity our efforts towards the community have been formally appraised. From April 2017 Living Under One Sun is a registered Charity!

Ten years on, Living Under One Sun is a multi-award winning, not-for-profit organization that has supported over 50 projects, from mushroom growing to sewing classes, all inspired by and developed for the community.
